Currently, injection molding uses solid metal molds, which are expensive and time-consuming to manufacture. A Northwestern lab asked us to redesign the process using double sided incrementally formed (DSIF) sheet metal molds instead. This would reduce the difficulty of manufacturing and producing molds, and additionally allow for the easy testing and replacement of IM molds.
